Adjusting for a perfect stitch!
A perfect stitch is the result of three simple things-thread, fabric, and stitch length. All three must be correct in order to create a smoother seam. To achieve this smooth seam you must make sample seams, including seam finishes, on small pieces of the fabric you are using for your project.
The correct thread should be used for the project. Lightweight or embroidery thread is great for light, delicate fabrics. Dual duty thread, or regular cotton covered polyester is used for medium and heavy weight fabrics.
Once the correct thread weight is established you must make some practice seams and seam finishes to adjust your sewing machine for the perfect stitch length. A stitch that is too short or too long can cause unsightly puckers in the seam that will not press out. After these samples are stitched be sure and press the seams to see the end result of your efforts. The seam should be straight, smooth and very pretty. Smooth stitching!

New Banner-One Nation Under God
by David Hewkin
When coming up with ideas for a new patriotic banner, I wanted something that made a particular statement about our nation. We are not blessed because we are a great nation, but rather we are a great nation because we have been blessed.
I was immediately struck by the contrasting imagery of the eagle and the dove. The eagle, our national bird, has always symbolized strength. The dove, while being a symbol of peace (which is often misinterpreted to mean weakness), is also symbolic of the Holy Spirit. So we have an almost ironic image of the strong eagle being sheltered by the gentle dove.. "in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge.." Psalm 57:1. My prayer is that this banner will be a reminder that these United States, founded on Godly principles, exists only by the grace of God. Our greatness is a testimony to His Goodness.
